This summer I got the hiking bug- badly! There aren't many things I would say are wrong with Nebraska, but the absence of mountains and 'real' hiking is one of those things. As a teenager, we traveled to the Teton Mountains every year and backpacked. So I got the opportunity to immerse myself in the smell of fir trees, cold winter streams, and high elevation. Well, Pablo and I haven't been able to make it back to Idaho for 2 and a half years now and I am getting the hiking feet.
There is, by the Missouri river, miles of land set apart for nature trails and wildlife conservation and that place saved my life! I went almost every week that something else didn't come up and so there are a lot of pictures. I have three different days represented here. PJ loved it. He LOVED it and I find that so exciting. It's not the Tetons or Colorado, but it's a baby step for my 'baby'. (Even though he's a toddler now *sniff sniff*)
Day 1
My friend for twelve years, Charisse, and her two boys.
Day 2
If you look closely, you can see the white-tailed deer darting into the wood :)
Day 3
Hiking with Charisse and her two boys (on the left) and my own, very special, mom.
Did I mention that we have known each other since 2001? Friends all through high school and now both married, kids, and living 25 minutes away!
