First Flights

Well, we are here in Omaha, Nebraska safe and happy! All our boxes are either unpacked or in storage and our living space is cozy and homey.
So I've been really excited to share the pictures of PJ first airplane trips from Austin to Dallas and from Dallas to Omaha! It was just PJ and I, since Pablo was driving our U-Haul up through Oklahoma and Kansas into Nebraska. I have to admit, I was intimated with the thought of flying with a baby with just my two hands. But thanks to Pinterest I felt prepared for anything and once I had our carry-on packed I was actually excited to get going.
Our first flight was early, 7 o'clock early! Pablo and I checked me in at the airport and then we had to split our ways. On our first flight PJ sat on my lap calmly and looked out the window or played with a toy. We had a layover in Dallas, but it was just long enough to find our gate, change a diaper, burn some of PJ's pent-up energy, and we were off again! PJ passed out after only 10 minutes and I relaxed with a in-flight cola and rested my eyes a little. It was great and by then the sun was up and the light coming through the window was warm and perfect :)
The only tantrum came as we were landing into Omaha and PJ had woken up and was tired of being in airplanes for the last 4 hours. I didn't blame him, haha, I was done too! But he was the perfect baby for two flights and a layover, so I didn't even mind 10 minutes of fussiness at the end :)

Riding the SkyTrain at the Dallas airport to make our connecting flight

Here are some tips I picked up from Pinterest and worked wonders for me:

Pay the extra for the Priority or Premium customer that allows you to skip the line at security. The lines can be looooonnng, and I know that PJ would have gotten fussy less than halfway through the line that they had at Austin. It was wonderful to go right through security and play at the gate.

Wear slip-on shoes, it makes the security check so much easier!

Let baby play at the gate. It lets them burn out all that energy :)

Wait until the end to board the plane. Sitting in the plane while it is just sitting there is the hardest and most boring part of the flight and baby is bound to get agitated. I changed PJ's diaper and let him play until the final boarding and I didn't have to hardly wait at all.

Bring a bottle of water for baby to drink or a pacifier for them to suck during take-off. For the air-pressure change.

Hide some of his favorite books and toys prior to your flight date and bring them out one at a time during the flight as needed. They'll be ecstatic!
